Second only to Christmas, Independence Day is my favorite holiday.
July 4th just makes me happy.
And so incredibly grateful.
In fact, weird as it may be, I’m nearly brought to tears at the end of the fireworks show every year.
It’s the sound, I think.
It’s always so loud and I wonder if it’s much different in war.
All those guys before me who have spent sleepless nights in fox holes, enduring whistling rockets overhead or explosions nearby, made it possible for me to not be terrified by very similar sounds.
It’s barbecue and flags.
It’s my Daddy’s Marine Corp Band marching music playing all day.
To my kids, it’s our flag’s birthday and a really good reason to get excited and throw those little popper things. They just learned they can snap them and not burn their fingers…..should be a great 4th.

What a great pictures and the outfits are adorable. Yes I agree, 4th of July is a great holiday. It was always such a fun one for me as a kid because all my relatives from Iowa would come to Missouri to celebrate. In Iowa fireworks are not legal and in Missouri they are. They would come down and camp out. My Uncle had a big blue bus and I remember just waiting for it to show up on the gravel road. Once I painted our picnic table like a flag for the 4th. It was so cool. Now my brother does 4th of July and I always look forward to the homemade icecream in various flavors. My favorite fireworks is the parachutes. We set them off at dusk and then we ran and try to catch the parachute which is quite entertaining to us. I hate when they get stuck in the tree. LOL I also love the big sparklers. Like you I find myself in awe of the freedom that we have and the sacrafices made so we could have it. So to end this long comment of such many good memories…sing with me… “I’m proud to be an American…”
I do too-last year I was 9 months pregnant and this year we’ll be celebrating a first birthday! Your patriotic pictures are so cute! And your new header picture is so precious~
I thought…look how that baby is growing, but all your children are. They look so cute in their R W & B outfits! I love the 4th too. What great thoughts you give, it is such a blessing to be thankful for our freedom and for those who fought for us.
Sweet! It has been 10 years since I celebrate July 4th in the U.S.. I miss it. Snap a popper thingie for me!
Oh! And absolutely LOVE your header!
Beautiful, beautiful children…and pictures!
There’s something about the comraderee (sp?) that you feel while watching fireworks among a large group of strangers…..just a sense of pride in the air….like for the evening we’re all on the same team! And the B-O-O-M-I-N-G in your chest just adds to the excitement!
What creative pictures! Adorable children.
